Spates Excavation, Inc. was founded by Mr. Spates in March of 1976. Mr. Spates started the company with one backhoe, working as an owner operator. Through his engineering expertise, quality performance, ethical nature and leadership ability, Mr. Spates has expanded his company, acquiring nearly fifty pieces of excavation equipment over the last two and a half decades. Spates Excavation, Inc. has become a multi-talented company, well equipped to service a wide range of needs.
We specialize in all aspects of excavation and backfill operations for structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical projects. In addition, we have over 25 years experience performing mass excavation, grading, and paving operations.

Spates Excavation, Inc. is a Southern California based corporation with a qualified staff of administrative managers, estimators, construction managers, and project managers with an average of 15 years experience.
We are affiliated with (5) five local trade unions. Most of our union operators have been with Spates for an average of 10 years, and all are experienced and qualified professionals. This along with the use of state-of-the-art equipment has allowed us to surpass our competition and make the most challenging jobs successful.

The diversity of our capabilities, combined with our experience and the depth of our professional resources allow Spates Excavation to help out customers address and solve technical and logistical problems. As the industry has changed, so has our company. Over the past 25 years, the original Spates Excavation has grown through the internal development, as a result of external industry influences, into the corporation it is today.
